Format

Poster sessions will be held in or adjacent to the large group room where attendees meet for the morning welcome and afternoon wrap-up. Up to five poster sessions will take place concurrently. Tables provided will be approximately six feet long. Supplies such as poster board, easels and other supports, thumbtacks, or tape will not be provided. If you plan to do a web presentation, you are responsible for bringing your own equipment (e.g. personal laptop), including a power source (i.e. batteries).

Presenters are expected to bring handouts (at least70 copies are recommended). You may wish to have a sign-up sheet to record the names and email addresses of attendees who would like further information.

Poster sessions will formally take place between approximately 9:00 - 9:45am and 1:00 - 1:30pm. Poster presenters are expected to remain with their displays during these two time periods. Attendees will be able to view your posters during the scheduled break periods as well, but you are not required to be present during breaks.

Schedule

Morning: The SCIL Works event begins at 9:00 am, so poster session presenters should plan to arrive at the location at 8:30 am in order to set up. Poster sessions will run 9:00 - 9:45am.

Afternoon: The SCIL Works wrap-up finishes at 1:00pm, and poster sessions will resume 1:00 - 1:30pm. Break down must be completed by 2:00pm.

Content

Poster sessions are an excellent way to present practical or research projects and their results; innovative programs and their outcomes or continuing challenges; or creative strategies to address ongoing concerns.

The display should include a statement of the problem or objectives of the project, the methodology used to solve the problem or implement the program, the major outcomes and their significance, and a conclusion. Displays should visually reflect a logical sequence of introduction, development, and conclusion.

 Design Elements

Please include a title heading at least 1+1/2” high, followed by the presenter’s name(s) and institutional affiliation.A brief abstract should appear on the top left of your display.

Simplicity and legibility are most important; plan for your poster to be easily viewable from a three-foot distance. Plan for visual impact by incorporating screen prints, charts, drawings, and photographs. Graphical elements such as arrows help provide a narrative flow to your poster.
